It’s been quite a day for the ratings boards.
Earlier we brought you news that Sly Cooper Collection is coming to PS Vita, a story that broke after the ESRB gave it an E rating prior to any official announcement. Now it appears that the Korean ratings board have managed to spoil a big announcement from Hideo Kojima’s and Konami.
Adding to the intrigue, and before any official announcement or statement from Konami, Kojima-san posted a picture on his Twitter feed that seemed to show all 4 iterations of Snake (be they Solid or Naked) within a wall of text that simply read “Metal Gear Solid”, a move that led to speculation that some kind of collection might very well be on the horizon.
IGN have since confirmed with Konami that the Legacy Collection does indeed exist, and that it will include EVERY Metal Gear game as well as two digital graphic novels from Ashley Wood. Konami released the following statement to the Ziff Davis owned gaming website –
“[Metal Gear Legacy Collection] will include Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition (which includes the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. In addition, the collection will also include two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels.”
“We wanted to give Metal Gear Solid fans the opportunity to experience the series from beginning to end, all on one console,” said Konami president Tomoyuki Tsuboi. “With the collection’s multiple titles, players can truly see how Metal Gear Solid evolved into the critically acclaimed and beloved franchise it is today.”
It’s an extremely exciting idea that finally we can scratch every Metal Gear itch on one console with just one purchase, so while there is no confirmation on a release schedule or how much you can expect to pay (we imagine it will be fairly hefty) this is still a very good day to be a Metal Gear fan.
If you own a Playstation that is…
